It’s September and so Cumbria Green Build Festival is once again on the horizon - we’ve supported and been involved with this wonderful initiative by Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) for too many years to mention! Last year our ‘ Introduction to Refurbishment’ was so popular we have decided to devote a full day to the topic and so we are going to cover the ‘Refurbishment of Roofs, Walls and Floors.’
Neil Turner (Ecological Building Systems) recently attended the WoodBuild Wales Event held at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells.
The main theme of the event was to talk about using more home grown wood in Welsh construction and also to promote Timber frame in general. In our latest blog Neil provides a summary of each presentation:
Can you smoke it?
Believe it not, this is the first question we are asked when people pick up a sample of the Thermo-Hemp. Industrial hemp is the non-intoxicating relative of its more famous cousin, marijuana so NO you can’t cut off chunks and smoke it. But if you live in a house and use Thermo-Hemp Insulation, you will certainly cut your energy bills and have a safer healthier home.

Liam Driscoll (MCIOB, MICWCI Building Inspector/ Clerk of Works) provides a guest review of our pro clima Intelligent Airtightness Systems Training -
Having first met Niall Crosson at a CPD event hosted by Ecological Building Systems for the Dublin Chapter, of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectors UK, I was very impressed by the academy that they had set up. I was particularly impressed with the mock-up room built to demonstrate the procedure for testing a building for airtightness, their knowledge of this area and the easy straight forward way of explaining this subject. I decided that I would like to learn more and enrolled on their course pro clima Intelligent Airtight System Installer Training Course.
It was incredible to see that among many technical products ranging from high-performance Solar Panels, heat pumps, combined heat and power and other impressive technical solutions, an ancient building material, lime and cork, used as far back as the Roman times won the award for the most energy efficient product.
