Overview

This is Auro’s solvent based Hard Oil 126 for interior use. It is made from natural ingredients from renewable and mineral sources. The solvents used in this product are all naturally occurring as declared on the technical data sheet. (Auro have a solvent free version of this product Auro Pursolid Hard Oil 123) This is a versatile product that can be used on all types of furniture and wooden surfaces throughout the house.

Where to Use it:

Auro Hard Oil 126 is a fully breathable oil made from natural ingredients and unlike most conventional paints the Auro oil does not contain any harmful ingredients. The Auro 126 oil is a hard wearing, transparent (slight honey in colour) oil. It can be used on all interior wood, wood-based materials, cork. It is excellent for the treatment and protection of floors. Can also be used to protect stone and unglazed clay tiles. This Auro oil is available in 3 different size cans – 375ml, 750ml and 2.5 Litres.

What it does:

The Auro Hard Oil 126 provides protection to your interior surface or can be used as a primer for very absorbent surfaces for follow up treatments with other Auro Oil or Wax products. The oil fills the pores of the surface and once these are fully saturated it protects the surface from dirt, water, grease etc… while allowing the surface to breathe.

How it Works:

Auro 126 oil should be applied thinly which will then soak into the surface and fill the pores. Any excess which is not absorbed should be removed within 10 minutes of application. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours. The drying process is initiated by oxygen uptake (oxidation) so it is vital that there is sufficient ventilation during the drying period. Avoid exposure to dirt and moisture while drying. Tintable with Auro Colour Concentrate 150

Why we love it:

The Auro Hard Oil 126 is such a versatile product which is very easy to use. It gives off a beautiful citrus scent when being applied and all the ingredients are impressively fully natural and compostable.

The oil can be used directly onto untreated timber. It can be applied by brush, roller, cloth or by spraying. The aim of the oil when treating wood is to fill all the pores so the wood is fully saturated therefore protecting the surface from water, dirt, stains etc… Two coats are generally recommended with a very light sanding between coats (180 – 220 Grit) If the oil is fully absorbed due to the wood already being saturated, any excess oil should be removed within 10 minutes of application – a fluff free cloth or a spatula is best to remove any excess.

For previously Oiled surface the renovation is very simple; clean the surface as normal and apply a new layer of the Hard Oil 126. Sometimes only part of the floor will need a renovation and just the worn parts need to be treated to blend in with the rest of the area. (If a different product was used a test area for compatibility should be done prior to undertaking a large area). If the area was previously varnished or painted the surface will need to be sanded back to bare wood again before oiling.

A colour can be added to the oil by using the Auro Colour Concentrate 150. The more Colour Concentrate that is added the darker the shade while remaining transparent so the woods grain can still show through. A maximum of 20% Colour Concentrate can be added to this oil.

The Oil has excellent coverage – 20sq/m per litre and is very easy to apply by brush, roller or by spraying. It is re-coatable after 24 hours. It can be thinned up to 30% with Orange Oil 191 if needed. All ingredients are fully declared on the tin and in the data sheet. For added protection, and a harder wearing surface a layer of Auro Hard Wax 171 can be used after this oil.

Hints and Tips

Use a spatula when removing any excess that has not been absorbed – the excess oil can be put back into the tin for future use so there is no waste.

Safety first: There is a danger of spontaneous ignition of drying oils. Do not crumble used cleaning cloths and the like. Spread them out for drying or store them in an air-tight closed metal container.
