The most Airtight House in Ireland...

Jeremy and Jackie Rynhart’s home in County Wicklow is surely the most airtight house in Ireland to date.

Central to this was not only to build an extremely low energy home, but a conscious effort was made to attain the ultimate levels of comfort and health using natural materials. The U value for the walls are an astonishing 0.11W/m2k, while the pitched roof features a U value of 0.13 W/m2k; both which used GUTEX Woodfibre boards. The pro clima Intelligent airtight system was installed by approved pro clima airtight installer Roman Szypura of Clioma Haus, along with enthusiastic support from Jeremy. State of the art planning for airtightness was attained with the assistance and careful detailing of Shoalwater timberframe. An initial blower door test confirmed the air tightness of the structure achieved an astonishing N50 of 0.15 ACH! Considering further sealing still has to be carried out on site this result was incredible. Over 50 times better than the current building regulations and 4 times better than Passive House requirements. Until now this appears to be the most airtight house in Ireland.
