What is Airtightness? Airtightness is primarily focusing on the elimination of all unintended gaps and cracks on the external envelope of the building. Airtightness is an essential part of creating a healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient living environment. In contrast, air leakage is where leaks occur due to gaps and cracks that should not be there in the first place.
More than 50 delegates from architectural practices and construction companies across the UK joined experts from Ecological Building Systems, product suppliers and industry experts recently at the company’s first ever CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) Masterclass.

Having first met Niall Crosson at a CPD event hosted by Ecological Building Systems for the Dublin Chapter, of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectors UK, I was very impressed by the academy that they had set up. I was particularly impressed with the mock-up room built to demonstrate the procedure for testing a building for airtightness, their knowledge of this area and the easy straight forward way of explaining this subject. I decided that I would like to learn more and enrolled on their course pro clima Intelligent Airtight System Installer Training Course.
It was incredible to see that among many technical products ranging from high-performance Solar Panels, heat pumps, combined heat and power and other impressive technical solutions, an ancient building material, lime and cork, used as far back as the Roman times won the award for the most energy efficient product.
The Ecological team travelled once again to DIASEN’s headquarters in Italy last week. We were delighted to have Dave Broderick of Db Plaster with us on our trip where he became an approved Diasen Specialist Applicator of their range of Thermal and decorative cork, lime-based plasters. It was also a great opportunity for members of our UK and Irish technical team to upskill in the field of DIASEN thermal plasters
