New Benefits of Natural Fibre Insulation CPD
Natural Fibre Insulation has been used in the UK construction sector since the early 1980’s. Whilst growth of this sector has been initially slow in the UK, especially compared to Europe and North America, the sector is now growing rapidly, as many homeowners, specifiers and builders are learning about the benefits of using natural bio-based insulation materials.
Despite the curiosity, many people are unaware of the range of natural insulation products that are available and crucially their performance benefits.

Description
This CPD has been created to provide a fascinating insight into the range of natural insulation materials available, how they are manufactured and certified and details a broad range of performance benefits. More specific details of natural insulation products such as wood fibre, hemp/Jute, grass, straw, sheep wool will be presented.
The CPD will be hosted by Neil Turner, UK Technical Manager, Ecological Building Systems, who has over 25 years of technical experience and expertise in the natural insulation industry sector.
Who it is for:
This training is aimed at professionals from all disciplines of building design and the construction industry; specifically, those who are interested in sustainable, healthy and high performance biobased materials.
This is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations. We are offering virtual design reviews with individuals following the CPD to enable you to discuss the details of specific projects with our technical team.
If you have a number of colleagues wanting to attend and a more tailored approach would be preferable, we can provide a dedicated virtual CPD for your team, which can be requested by sending an email to us at info@ecologicalbuildingsystems.com
What you learn:
You will learn about the diverse range of natural fibre insulation products that are available. The CPD training highlights the wide range of performance benefits associated with natural fibre insulation products.
The CPD highlights where natural fibre insulation products are used (building types and element types) and some build-up details will be shown.
At the end or the CPD you will understand how and why natural insulation is an excellent option for creating a warm and healthy indoor living environment.
What you will do?
You will receive industry leading training from highly experienced technical professionals with the opportunity to ask questions. We will show examples of various natural fibre insulation products, and we can arrange to send samples following the training.
What happens on the day?
You will receive an email containing the link to join the virtual CPD which will be taking place via Zoom.
There will be a brief introduction, followed by the presentation, with the opportunity to ask questions throughout the presentation via the chat box. We'll answer as many questions as possible at various points during the session and afterwards via email if we run short of time.
As this is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations, we are offering virtual design reviews with individuals, to enable you to discuss specific projects in more detail with our technical team. This can be requested by sending an email to us at info@ecologicalbuildingsystems.com
What you will gain from attending this CPD
Points Gained
This CPD is a 1 hour stand-alone CPD providing 1 point towards maintaining your professional standard. This can be doubled with an additional 1-2 hour related activity.
Sustainable architecture is a rapidly developing area and is a RIBA core curriculum topic. There is a requirement for a minimum of 2 hours to be spent on each of the core 10 topics.
Continued Development
The content of this CPD is great background knowledge for sustainable, energy efficient retrofits, particularly with heritage buildings. Our other CPDs develop these concepts for different types of insulation and building methods.
We have a dedicated training areas in both the UK and Ireland where we offer practical training on a regular basis, giving delegates the opportunity to experience installation first-hand. In Ireland, our Centre of Knowledge training facility can be found in Athboy, Co. Meath, while our UK training facility is based in Cumbria.

Speakers

Fergal Flatley
Sustainable Building Technologist
Fergal is a qualified construction project manager, he has a keen interest in green building and the development of biodegradable materials for construction and so went on to complete a B.Sc. in Advanced Wood & Sustainable Building Technology at Sligo I.T. Following this, Fergal completed an honours degree in Construction Project Management before joining Ecological. Most recently, he successfully completed the Passive House Contractor exam run by the Passive House Institute in Germany, is fully trained on low energy detailing, and is a Certified City & Guilds Ventilation Validator.
