Main purpose

Creates an instant permanent and flexible airtight seal for use with membranes; especially on vertical or overhanging surfaces where Orcon F might dry too slowly or be harder or less convenient to apply in an unbroken continuous bead.

Use it on

All Pro Clima internal or external membranes or other membrane made from PE, PA, PP, PET and aluminium, masonry (brick, stone or blockwork), plaster or render (of any type), steel, concrete or timber and wood based boards such as OSB, Plywood, Elka Strong Board or Finsa SuperPan VapourStop.  The surface can be smooth or uneven.

Overview

Orcon Multibond is a double-sided solid acrylic strip of glue. It provides an instant permanent and flexible airtight seal between membrane and surfaces. Orcon Multibond adhesive will permanently stick to all Pro Clima vapour control and breathable membranes, and any smooth or uneven surface commonly found on a building site.  It is particularly useful on vertical surfaces, overhanging surfaces and on ceilings and locations above head-height. Orcon Multibond is solvent free, highly flexible and frost resistant.

Where to use it

Orcon Multibond can be used internally or externally with all Pro Clima vapour retardant and breathable membranes or other membrane made from PE, PA, PP, PET and aluminium.  It will permanently stick to any substance commonly found on a building site.  These include: steel, masonry (stone, brick or blockwork), damp plaster or render (of any type), concrete or timber (planed, rough or painted) and wood-based boards, hard plastics and metal.  For sticking to rough surfaces such as concrete, brick or blockwork and when used on natural woodfibre insulation boards, the surface should be primed first using Tescon Primer RP or Tescon Sprimer.  If the surface is dust-producing, may come away or easily delaminate, an adhesion test is recommended prior to use.

What it does

Orcon Multibond is a double-sided tape of solid acrylic glue and a convenient alternative to Orcon F.  It provides excellent adhesion on most surfaces (smooth or uneven) and provides a perfect airtight and windtight seal between a membrane and substrate.  This Orcon tape is easier to use than Orcon F on vertical surfaces, overhanging surfaces and ceilings or in other locations where the tape will be applied above head height.  This is because the potential for application error and air leakage is reduced when the installer does not need to apply a continuous unbroken bead of liquid sealant in these more difficult to work locations.

Why we love it

Orcon Multibond adhesive contains no solvents and has the best possible Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) rating in accordance with ISO 16001. This contributes to improved indoor air quality.  It provides an instant seal when used with no curing time. This may be particularly useful when a building is undergoing a blower door test and leakage points need to be immediately sealed and re-tested.

How it works

Orcon Multibond is a 10m long strip of solid acrylic glue that is 3mm thick. It has no carrier film or backing and once the release film has been removed, it provides a double-sided narrow strip of solid glue on an easy to dispense roll.  The product is highly flexible so it can be applied onto rough or uneven surfaces. Once applied to the substrate it is then very easy to bond the membrane onto the 3mm thick strip of glue.

How to Install

The surface must be stable and before application, must be cleaned to remove any contaminants such as dirt, oil, silicone or dust. Plaster or concrete surfaces can be slightly moist. Orcon Multibond will not adhere to frozen surfaces (i.e. with visible ice crystals formed), but can be applied at temperatures above -15˚C.  Tescon Primer RP or Tescon Sprimer should be used to prime the surface before applying to rough or dust-producing surfaces such as natural woodfibre insulation boards, concrete, brick or blockwork.

Orcon Multibond should be applied directly from the roll to the surface. Peel off the release strip and stick to the substrate. The membrane is then pressed onto the strip of Orcon Multibond using a Pro Clima Pressfix tool.  It is important not to squash the strip of glue flat by pressing too hard with the Pressfix tool.

Hints and Tips

After sticking Orcon Multibond to a surface, if the membrane will not be applied immediately, leave the release strip on the Multibond to protect it and keep it clean. Remove the release strip just before the membrane is applied.
