Redstone Pura Light
Product Overview
Main purpose
Bonding Redstone Pura Core insulation boards to solid masonry walls and as undercoat plaster onto Pura Core boards before applying mesh and smooth finishing plaster (Luno).
Use it on
The interior side of solid stone, brick or masonry walls onto new or existing lime-based plaster, cement render, concrete, and Gypsum. The surface must be sound, level and free of paint or surface finishes. On gypsum surfaces, the gypsum must be at least 10mm thick.
Overview
Redstone Pura Light is a vapour open capillary active adhesive for bonding Redboard Pura Core internal insulation boards to level walls. It is also the undercoat plaster onto which mesh and smooth finishing plaster (Luno) is applied. Pura Light is specifically formulated to ensure the moisture management capabilities of the Redstone Pura system are ideally maintained.
Where to use it
Pura Light should be used with Pura Core insulation boards on the interior side of external walls onto new or existing lime plaster, cement render, concrete or gypsum plaster. The surface must be sound, level and free of paint or surface finishes. If the existing plaster is uneven or in poor condition, it should be removed then the wall can be levelled with Diathonite Thermactive insulating plaster.
On gypsum surfaces, Pura Light adhesive mortar can only be used on dry walls with a low moisture content. In projects where optimal moisture management is required, gypsum should be removed and replaced with a lime-based plaster.
When Redstone Pura Core insulation boards are installed onto the wall, Pura Light can be applied directly onto the boards as the undercoat plaster before applying mesh and Redstone smooth finishing plaster (Luno).
What it does
Pura Light is the adhesive and undercoat plaster for Redstone Pura Core insulation boards. It is capillary active and vapour open, so the Pura Core boards can work to their highest level of performance.
When Pura Light is used on gypsum plasters, the moisture management capabilities of the Pura System is limited to the Pura Core board’s ability to absorb excess humidity from the air. If your wall is not fully dry or has variable levels of moisture, gypsum must be removed and replaced with lime-based plaster like Diathonite Thermactive.
Why we love it
Pura Light is both adhesive and undercoat plaster for Pura Core; this simplifies your project by saving time, reducing waste and storage requirements.
Pura Light was formulated to optimise the effectiveness of the Pura Core insulation system. As an adhesive it provides 100% coverage and connection of the Pura Core boards to the wall meaning no mechanical fixings are required and there are no air gaps where interstitial condensation or thermal bridging can occur. When used as undercoat plaster it provides a robust surface for the application of mesh to protect the Pura Core board from everyday activity.
Features
- Fast-setting adhesive
- Highly vapour permeable (breathable) and capillary active
- Adhesive is compatible with lime, cement or gypsum plasters.
- Made from lightweight aggregates, including hydrated lime and sand.
Benefits
- The adhesive sets fast speeding up installation time.
- As a Euro fire classification A1 non-combustible product, it complies with Part B fire requirements.
- Actively transports moisture away from the wall and into the Redboard Pura Core board, allowing it to dry harmlessly to the interior.
- This is a lightweight vapour-permeable and capillary-active adhesive that will not trap moisture.

Installation Guide
Add 10 litres of clean water to a clean bucket. Add 20kg of Pura Light and mix thoroughly with a suitable whisk for at least 3 minutes. Leave for a few minutes and stir again. Use the mixed material immediately, and only mix as much as you can use in a two-hour period.
For smaller quantities, use 0.5 litres of water per kilogram of Pura Light.
Only mix as much material as you think you will use within about two hours of working time. Stiffened materials that have already set cannot be reworked with water or fresh Pura Light. The times given apply for the standard temperature range of approximately +20°C at 65% relative humidity. Lower temperatures will take more time, while higher temperatures will shorten the working and adhesion time. Pura Light must be protected against premature dehydration, e.g., due to draughts of air or high temperature.
Apply the mixed Pura Light mortar horizontally to the back of the Pura Core board using a suitable notched trowel (≥ 10mm). Apply it evenly with no gaps, one board at a time. Immediately after applying Pura Light adhesive, place the Pura Core insulation board into position and then press it firmly against the substrate.
After the adhesive has hardened and the Pura Core board is fully attached to the wall, Pura Light can then be applied as an undercoat at a thickness of 4-5mm. Redstone reinforcing mesh is then applied and pressed into the surface with a smooth trowel. After approximately 24 hours, Clima Redboard Pro Smooth Finishing Plaster (Luno) can be applied by trowelling flat and smoothed until the final finish texture is achieved. A further 24-48 hours should be allowed to fully dry before painting.
If you do not require a smooth finish, Pura Light can be used as both the undercoat and the final finish layer to achieve a grainy finish. When applied in two layers with mesh in between, like this, the second layer should be applied 24 hours after the first layer. Allow 24-48 hours for the second coat to dry before painting.
Times for second coat and painting are based on normal drying conditions and may vary depending on the thickness of the layer, temperature, humidity and ventilation.
