- Architects: Martin McCrae and Mhairi Grant
Martin McCrae and Mhairi Grant of Architecture and Design practice Paper Igloo have designed their own contemporary Timber framed stick built home coined Ostro Passivhaus.
The home embraces the company's own design philosophy in striking a balance between its beautifully modern appearance and its exemplar low energy performance aiming for both Passivhaus certification as well as Scottish Sustainability Gold Level.
From the very outset the aspiration was to design the highest performing low environmental impact home possible and it was through this ethos that led the couple to Ecological Building Systems.
The house is constructed & insulated using natural materials where possible, including Gutex Multitherm boards. The stringent air tightness requirements will be met using Unilin's airtight Vapour Block board along with pro clima's range of airtight tapes, membranes and seals.
Through meticulous attention to detail the couple were able to translate their design drawings to the constrution site ensuring the building would perform as designed.
