New Product Focused CPD: Gramitherm Sustainable Grass Insultation
This newly released CPD is an introduction to Gramithern Sustainable Grass Insulation, a natural, breathable thermal, and acoustic insulation that protects buildings from cold in the winter and overheating in the summer.
Gramitherm Sustainable Grass Insulation is an environmentally friendly insulation, primarily manufactured from naturally abundant grass cuttings sourced from public spaces, such as parks and grass verges, and recycled jute fibres.

Description
Who it is for
This training is aimed at professionals from all disciplines of the building design and construction industry, specifically, for those who are interested in sustainable and innovative building methods.
This is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations. We are offering virtual design reviews with individuals following the CPD to enable you to discuss the details of specific projects with our technical team.
If you have a number of colleagues wanting to attend and a more tailored approach would be preferable, we can provide a dedicated virtual CPD for your team, which can be requested by sending an email to us at info@ecologicalbuildingsystems.com.
What you will learn
Cut grass biomass has always been viewed as a waste product until now. With one hectare of grass producing 200m³ of insulation material we can turn this “waste” into a valued raw material without harming the environment. This raw material does not come at the expense of animal feed but rather repurposes the cut grass taken from public spaces otherwise destined for compost heaps.
This form of waste recovery is taken from grass harvested in a way that respects local ecosystems. Responsible mowing practices, including timing and cutting height, help preserve local wildlife and flora, contributing to biodiversity protection. The end result is a product that combines abundantly renewable carbon storing biomass with the advantages of recycled jute fibre creating a long lasting and healthy insulation that can be used in our buildings.
What you will do
You will receive industry leading online training from highly experienced technical professionals with the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the speakers.
What happens on the day
You will receive an email containing the link to join the virtual CPD which will be taking place via Zoom.
There will be a brief introduction, followed by the presentation, with the opportunity to ask questions throughout the presentation via the chat box. We'll answer as many questions as possible at various points during the session and afterwards via email if we run short of time.
As this is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations, we are offering virtual design reviews with individuals, to enable you to discuss specific projects in more detail with our technical team. This can be requested by sending an email to us at info@ecologicalbuildingsystems.com
Points Gained
This CPD is a 1 hour stand-alone CPD providing 1 point towards maintaining your professional standard. This can be doubled with an additional 1-2 hour related activity (see RIBA website for more details).
Sustainable architecture is a rapidly developing area and is a RIBA core curriculum topic. There is a requirement for a minimum of 2 hours to be spent on each of the core 10 topics.
Continued Development
The content of this CPD provides excellent background knowledge for the creation of long-lasting energy efficient sustainable buildings. Our other CPDs develop these concepts for different types of insulation and building methods.
Agenda
- The evolution of Gramitherm®
- The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and Construction Product Regulations (CPR) and the changing landscape for manufacturers
- Renewable raw material and circular production in action
- Manufacturing process
- Environmental Product Declaration and product performance
- Natural advantages – environmental, thermal, acoustic and moisture behaviour
