Optimising Building Performance with Wellhöfer Airtight Insulated Attic Hatch Solutions

Attics/lofts can be cold and humid places and surprising amounts of heat can be lost over the winter months if attic hatches are not insulated and properly sealed for airtightness.  With our range of airtight attic hatches, you can make your property a more energy efficient, ecologically friendly place by combining the attic hatch with ceiling components such as airtight vapour control membranes and downlight protectors etc. to minimise the heat loss and moisture risks from poor attic detailing.

Description

Who it is for:

This training is aimed at professionals and home-owners alike, who are wanting to know more about sustainable, energy efficient building practices.

This is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations. We are offering virtual design reviews with individuals following the CPD to enable you to discuss the details of specific projects with our technical team.

What you learn:

  • The importance of airtightness detailing for attic/loft spaces as a means to protect the roof structure from the damaging effects of moisture and unnecessary heat loss from the building.
  • The mechanisms for air leakage and heat loss through poorly sealed ceilings.
  • Solutions from the Wellhöfer range including options for loft’s, crawl spaces and areas where there may be space restrictions.
  • Additional safety solutions relating to fire and working at a height.

What you will do:

You will receive industry leading training from highly experienced technical professionals with the opportunity to ask questions.

What happens on the day?

You will receive an email containing the link to join the virtual CPD which will take place via Zoom.

There will be a brief introduction, followed by the presentation with the opportunity to ask questions throughout the presentation via the chat box. We will answer as many questions as possible at various points during the session and afterwards via email if we run short of time.

As this is an open CPD with participants joining from different organisations, we are offering virtual design reviews with individuals, to enable you to discuss specific projects in more detail with our technical team. This can be requested by sending an email to us at info@ecologicalbuildingsystems.com

What you will gain from attending this CPD

    • Attendees will gain a knowledge in the thermal performance of building elements at openings, detailing for optimal performance and reduced heat loss through the ceiling level.
    • Moisture protection in cold attic spaces, how heat and moisture escape through a poorly sealed ceiling. The risks associated with poor attic detailing.
    • A look at Wellhöfer’s product range of solutions and high-quality components.

Points Gained

This CPD is a 1.5 hour stand-alone CPD providing 1 point towards maintaining your professional standard.

Sustainable architecture is a rapidly developing area and is included on the list of the 10 mandatory RIBA core curriculum CPD topics. There is a requirement for a minimum of 2 hours to be spent on each of the 10 core topics.

Continued Development

The content of this CPD is great background knowledge for sustainable, energy efficient retrofits whilst our other CPDs develop these concepts for different types of insulation and building methods.

We have a dedicated training areas in both the U.K and Ireland where we offer practical training on a regular basis, giving delegates the opportunity to experience installation first-hand. In Ireland, our Centre of Knowledge training facility can be found in Athboy, Co. Meath, while our UK training facility is based in Cumbria.

Agenda

We are privileged to be joined by Martin Gillmeister CEO of Wellhöfer for this event, who will share details of the company history and ethos.

Following this, a presentation will be given by Fergal Flatley and supported by Joe Fitzgerald from the Ecological Technical Team.

  • Company presentation, introducing Wellhöfer with Martin Gillmeister, CEO
  • Exploring how heat and moisture escape through poorly sealed ceilings
  • The risks associated with poor attic detailing
  • Combining airtight vapour control membranes with certified airtight components to ensure a well-sealed ceiling
  • Comparative performance vs other building openings
  • Simplicity of the construction
  • Additional measures
  • Other important performance characteristics (fire, sound, aesthetics)
